What makes this a mini ECourse?

Only the fact that it consists of a 3 herbs that you explore at your own pace in your own time. That is why I call it workshop, it’s shorter. A fun foray into the ideas of integrating herbs into multiple aspects of daily life – documented in 3 paintings.

What is ethnobotany anyway?
Ethnobotany is “the scientific study of the traditional knowledge and customs of a people concerning plants and their medical, religious, and other uses.” So, basically the way a plant integrates into history and culture. Herbs are so rich in culture that they are the perfect introduction to ethnobotany.

Of course! You and your children, or students, can explore all the art, ethnobotany, and cooking and gardening activities together and build lifelong bonds with the natural world together. For example, in a home schooling type situation the parent could take the course, then teach their children the lessons in a way developmentally appropriate for their children.

Why take this course with me?

You may be thinking: But you have a degree in art, of course you think drawing is easy. And you have a degree in environmental studies, of course you think connecting with nature is fun! How will you understand me, a newbie to the world of connecting to nature through art?

Because I totally understand and embrace the importance of the beginner’s mind. I have taught art to children ages 2-12 for nearly 20 years, so I have a deep understanding of compassionate ways to teach the fundamentals. When we start to think that we “know” is the moment when we close ourselves to real learning. I have found the more I learn, the more I realize I have to learn! And by embracing the fact that we each have gifts to teach and something to learn we open ourselves up to a huge flow of knowledge.

So sure, I am qualified through both formal academic education and years of experience to teach you about the wonders of nature journaling, the powers of art to build nature connections, and the strength a creative relationship with our natural world provides us, but I also look forward to what I can learn from your revelations on the topic and what we will all learn on the journey together!!

If you have read my book or blog, or taken one of my other eCourses or webinars, you know that I have a very casual, yet detailed, and compassionate approach that breaks the techniques and ideas down into simple to actualize steps, presented in conversational style. This course is no different!
