Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 5 days and we will give you a full refund.
“But I can’t even draw a straight line!!”

Awesome!! Lines in nature aren’t straight and if they were, that’s why rulers were invented! Absolutely no pervious art or drawing experience is necessary to begin this course. We embrace a beginners mind and take our cues from nature!

Also, consider checking out the mini course Connecting with Color!! Learn basic color theory to provide a strong foundation from which to sprout your painting skills! You can purchase the 2 courses as a bundle at a discount!

What kind of supplies will be needed for this course?
Basic art supplies like a sketch book, pens, pencils, watercolor paint and brushes, and colored pencils. Once you register and get access to the Draw Yourself Back to Nature course page, you’ll get a detailed supply list explaining everything you need, why, and more!
What is the target age group?

Great question! I know a lot of my workshops are for children, but grown-ups this course is for you! I would say that children ages 6+ could do most of it with adult guidance. For example, in a home schooling type situation the parent could take the course, then teach their children the lessons in a way developmentally appropriate for their children.

Teachers could also use some of the concepts in class as well. Week 3 will explore using art and nature journaling to connect children and family to nature. All in all though it’s aimed at adults that want to get into nature journaling, but are hesitant because of lack of art or nature experience – or adults with experience that want an excuse to take time for creative nature connection and deepen their skills!

What’s up with the live sharing sessions?

Don’t worry, you don’t have to talk about your feelings! The 2 live sessions are a great way to build community and enthusiasm, share our work and nature connections, get feedback if you would like, spark each other’s senses of wonder, swap journaling adventures and ideas, and learn from each other!

The first sharing, at the end of the 2nd week, will be an open studio hour where we can work together, try out techniques that others have discovered, and talk about what we are discovering as art draws us back to nature!

The end of course sharing will be an exhibition of our favorite pieces, a chat about how we will continue to make nature journaling an important part of daily life, and an all round celebration of the nature journaling journey!

When does registration and the actual course begin?

This depends on which version of the course you purchased.

The self paced course is not available when a facilitated version is being offered and run.

At this time, the facilitated version registration is only available twice a year, in spring and fall.

Both versions are awesome, although the facilitated offers closely joining with a wonderful community of nature exploring creatives and being guided in live time by me.

Why take this course with me?

You may be thinking: But you have a degree in art, of course you think drawing is easy. And you have a degree in environmental studies, of course you think connecting with nature is fun! How will you understand me, a newbie to the world of connecting to nature through art?

Because I totally understand and embrace the importance of the beginner’s mind. I have taught art to children ages 2-12 for nearly 20 years, so I have a deep understanding of compassionate ways to teach the fundamentals. When we start to think that we “know” is the moment when we close ourselves to real learning. I have found the more I learn, the more I realize I have to learn! And by embracing the fact that we each have gifts to teach and something to learn we open ourselves up to a huge flow of knowledge.

So sure, I am qualified through both formal academic education and years of experience to teach you about the wonders of nature journaling, the powers of art to build nature connections, and the strength a creative relationship with our natural world provides us, but I also look forward to what I can learn from your revelations on the topic and what we will all learn on the journey together!!
