Supplies

Supplies:

These are the supplies I use in the videos. Feel free to use your favorite supplies or brands. It may look like a lot of supplies at first glance, but many you'll already have around the house and yard.

The most important thing is that you have fun making the project with what you have rather than having to go out and buy special materials for this. Focus on getting nature items you are excited about over the exact art supplies I use.

Nature items:

  • For the video 1 Practice: choose 5 or so everyday nature items from your yard, fridge, or garden center. I used a carrot, a piece of ginger root, a few sage leaves,
  • For the Video 2 & 3 main project: You use whatever nature item speaks to you and the way you feel connected on the day you want to do this project! I used a sunflower.

Watercolor paper:

  • I use a 9x12 140 Lb cold press, but you can use whatever paper you like best for watercolor paint & it can be in a journal or not. It’s up to you! Either way you will need a few sheets and if using a journal you’ll want at least one full spread.

Pencils & Pens

  • Any light drawing pencil will do. Steer clear of the softer B grade pencils, they will be too dark for this project, but an HB would be fine. I use Prismacolor Turquoise line drawing pencil H.
  • Pigma Micron Pens: Black 03 for outlines and 005 for details. Dark brown 01 for background

Paint:

Your colors will depend on if you are following along with me, painting something different, or both! I use Grumbacher tube watercolor paint in colors:

Brushes:

  • Synthetic Watercolor: Round 3, 6, and 1 (the large 1 not small 01), Flat 10

Salt:

  • Table salt, course ground kosher salt, sea salt, whatever you have on hand. The bigger the salt chunk the more pronounced the sunburst will be. I used table salt because it’s what I had and I like how it gives a subtle glittery effect.

Shapes to Trace:

  • These could be from a template, a stencil, cups, bowls, anything you like the shape of! I use a small bowl, a tiny plate, and a stencil
